Week's End Scribbles
It's Sunday night and my Gin and Tonic is long since finished - another busy week has come to a close.
We had a bowling party
and more cake (William's personal favorite!)
Friday after school Evie and I went to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. I have to say I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the books - I want to go back and re-read the series - and we're both a little bummed that the next movie doesn't come out until November 2010!
After the movie we went to Kohls for some fall shopping and I was shocked to receive the following message on my phone around 8:30:
Now that the first week of school, two cakes, and the box of wine left from the beach (NO comments, please!) are behind me (literally) it's time to get serious. I've been slacking in the exercise department after injuring my shin running back in July. I have self-diagnosed myself (thank you, Google) with what is essentially shin splints, probably from running on the concrete sidewalks around town. The cure? Rest. Which, of course, I didn't take seriously enough and ended up aggravating it again before our beach trip. Long story short, I need to get back into a routine that includes exercise & healthy eating so that I can feel my best - body AND mind. Because much to my horror my 39th birthday is approaching, and if I don't exercise I feel every year of it in my back and sciatic nerve. It's also a great stress-reliever - for example on the days your kids bring you to tears at the grocery store. Don't ask.

Sounds like a busy but fun weekend! I hit up Kohls on Saturday and got some awesome things :) That cake looks and sounds DELISH!!!
ReplyDeleteGood weekend! Ah, Edward.... Is there a way that you can avoid shin splints? By warming up? I am afraid I might be getting them...
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week! Good luck with everything!
XOXO
Jen
Hi Jen, I remember from my track days, that to avoid shin splints, we would write the alphabet with our toes. So you hold your foot above the ground, point your toes down like they are the pencil, and write out the alphabet. Sounds weird, but it works!
ReplyDeleteMy 39th birthday is in 12 DAYS!!
ReplyDeleteWe both need to get our butts in gear here!
That Edward is so funny....and you just gave me an idea.
Oh boy, you almost lost me at Gin and Tonic. (Long story but I can't drink those.) The Edward picture is wonderful! I know that brought a huge smile to your face.
ReplyDeleteI need to get back to exercising, too. I always seem to get off track one week a month. Hmm... Thanks for reminding me it is a great stress reliever!
I don't care if it's wine in a box...it's wine, people...ahhhh!!
ReplyDeleteOuch...shin splints. You may remember I got them too. It took a long time for them to feel totally better. I just started trail running, because of the puppy and we back to a trail near our house. It's helped AND the biggest bonus is it makes running on pavement seem much easier. LOL!!
Do what Colleen said to try and strengthen you shin muscles. I believe it really does help.
Don't worry about 39...you look so young and fantastic you could easily tell people you're 10 years younger and they'd believe you!!

Tears at the grocery store...sounds familiar! Wow, I'm glad to see Edward is back! Haven't seen him in a while! :)
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks AWESOME. My husband would love that for his birthday!
Hello! I'm new to your blog and looking forward to visiting often! I had terrible shin splints until I went to a store that really looked at the way I walk and run. Evidently, if your feet pronate at all, you are very prone to them. There are certain running shoes that adjust for that, and it was amazing how quickly it helped. Well, if you already know all that, forgive the blab.
ReplyDeleteThat silly edward!!

Looks like you all were having some fun. Girl I have been sick sick sick. Migraines that have been causing me vertigo. Nothing seems to be working. Have a great week. I see you did the B'day swap with Shawn...I am mailing my stuff out in the morning. How bout you?
ReplyDeleteDD
I should comment on the post...
ReplyDeletebut I think that is a new picture of you on the side bar?? Nice.
I wish I had an excuse like shin splints to not exercise but I don't. I'm just lazy.
ReplyDeleteI love that note from Edward!
I need to get back into the swing of things when it comes to eating better and exercise...I just have zero motivation...perhaps we could motivate each other?
