Pear

I'm a pear. Supposedly that's good, as (according to this) the fat around my hips and behind contributing to my pear shape will mop up lots of bad-for-my-heart things circulating around in my blood. Unfortunately, fat gathered around the hips and behind is that much harder to get rid of. The article spouts some nonsense of why this slow-burning fat is a good thing, but whatever.

Because I'm a pear, the 5 pounds I gained due to my month long holiday cookie/sweet fest is all now behind me. Literally. And my goal of losing the last 5 pounds is now back up to January's 2009's 10. (sigh). It's a vicious cycle. And in the words of the inimitable Jenny Mac, 'the ass will not lose itself'. Much to our dismay.

So I'm shredding, and today since the weather was finally warm(-ish) and sunny I ran 3 miles for the first time in two months. So nice to get outside and enjoy the silence in my own head! So difficult because I haven't done it since November!

I read something the other day that really struck me as sensible, food-wise: rather than focus on a 'diet' and the things you shouldn't be eating, focus on making sure you're getting all the healthy foods you should every day. It was kind of an 'a-ha' for me - sure, my bowl of soup and a sandwich for lunch may be low calorie, but it's chock full of sodium & other stuff and I'd do better eating a salad with some sort of protein. This goes along with the 'eat more plants, not food made in plants' blurb that I saw floating around the internet the other day.

We'll see how it goes - there aren't too many holidays coming up to throw me off track, and I've already asked Matt not to get me the BIG box of Godiva truffles for Valentine's day! Instead of getting a sitter & going out to dinner for date night, we're going to go skiing instead - I cannot wait! It's been 11 years since I've strapped boards to my feet and I'm so excited to do it again. Stay tuned for pictures at some point!

In other news, we've been spending a lot of time in the bathroom with the toddlers this week, making progress. Sarah is wanting to take swimming lessons (Evie and William started winter lessons last week) & I've told her once she's out of diapers we'll do it. She REALLY wants to get in that pool, and is coming along potty-wise. And Jason? Little Buddy totally gets it! He's doing terrific! I may get them both out of diapers at the same time! Pray for me. Srsly.

And while I have your attention, my 1 year blogoversary is coming up on January 21st. Where did the time go?! I'm trying to put together a little giveaway, so make sure you stop by next week & check it out.

I hope you all are having a great week and enjoy the long weekend coming up :)

  1. Jen!!!

I was so excited when I saw you pop up on my sidebar! You are so funny!

I am so glad you are shredding! I am too - although still on level one at like day 9 or something. I am having a hard time getting motivated!

It's been a long time since I've gone skiing too! I used to love it though. You will have a great time!

And happy blogoversary!!! Good luck in the bathroom this week! I think I've blocked those days out - lol.

Hope you are having a great week! Do you think this comment is long enough? Can you tell I've missed you??

  2. I went to a circuit aerobics class, and I was soo sore the next day! Things have been a bit snug in the pants department since the non-stop eating fest these holidays. I am a pear too....I would like to blame my children for my depleated "chest area"...but I think after 4 kids I forgot what I started out with, and got used to the amble milk filled version! *sigh*

  3. Yay!!! Potty training is working...find somthing they love i.e. swimming lessons and it works!! I'll have to remember that...though it may only work on girls huh?

I am shredding everyday and I started the couch to 5K program to get myself running. I don't think I like running, but I have never given it time and trained myself to do it. So we will see- hubby runs half marathons and wants me to run with him...scary!!!!

Have a great weekend- quit kicking my butt on WWF!!!

  4. You are so lucky that you got out to run....the smog is keeping us from doing anything outside here.

Potty training sucks and I'm so glad you are having some success!!

Can't wait to hear about the skiing because I want to learn someday.

  5. I've been a-shredding, too. It sucks. I've been attempting to actually keep track of what I put in my piehole for the first time. (Canada's dietician's website has an application called Eatracker that helps you record it all). Trying to be purposeful about eating less and exercising regularly. Not sure if my weight is actually going down yet but we'll see. :) You aren't alone!

  7. Oh man I SO need to get moving. I've got about 5-10 lbs still to go from having baby in Sept. Not to mention the 20 lbs that needs to go along with it... ha! One day I will get motivated.
Great idea about the date skiing! I haven't been since i started having my babies - I need to get back out there! Maybe once little one stops nursing. SOOO AWESOME that the potty training is going so well. My middle one is NOT having it! I hope she starts to get interested soon!!!
    Happy almost blogoversary!!!

  9. Good for you on all accounts - the skiing, the training and the eating. One day at a time as they say, who ever they are.

  10. I need to learn to embrace my pear-self too. Honestly, no matter what I do my boot does not get any smaller. Possibly less flabby, but no smaller. I'm seriously considering becoming a shredder too. Right now I'm alternating Denise Austin and Buns of Steel. And my boot . . . it's a-hurtin'.

Good luck with the potty training, and Happy Blogoversary!!!

  11. Girl, you are NOT a pear. The first time you ran in 2 months and you ran 3 miles? I've never ran three miles. Even if you add up all the times I've run, hasn't been three miles!
Anyway, the first time you go to the store and don't need to go down the diaper aisle you're gonna feel weird!

  12. Unfortunately, I hear ya on the Pear thing. Thinking about that just makes me hate pears.

Sounds like a fabulous Valentine's date. It makes me want to come up with something different, too.

I am having a party when my littlest is out of diapers. Seriously- a PAR-TAY. It will be 9 or 10 years of diapers. You know what I am talking about.

  13. Yay for Shredding! ;o) One of my goals is to run a 5 K this year. I've never been a runner, but I want to at least try to become one.

Sounds like a plan with the potty training and the skiing! How fun...the skiing anyway!

    Keep up the great work!

  14. I saw that info too about the pear shape and how people that retain their weight in their lower body have health benefits from it. Interesting. These thunder thighs are good for something. Who knew?!

The skiing sounds so fun! Can't wait to see pics and hear about it.
