8 Days a Week

********** Warning: Venting Ahead ************

I need another day in the week. Seven is not enough. I would prefer it if this eighth day was 'mine', sort of in another dimension where I would not be required to do the daily things that seem to suck my day away - cooking, dishes, small child care, laundry, cleaning up the daily messes that seem to get made - the endless loop of putting Jason back in his bed that I seem to be on...be right back.

Sorry, had to tuck Jason in for the 8th time. Last night tucking Jason in went on for an hour. I'm getting tired; William is tired because they share a room. This weekend we will spend some time removing all the dangers from their room so that I can just lock him in there & he can roam until he passes out. But for now, he really needs to stay in the darn crib so he doesn't get hurt. Did I mention he's not even 2 yet?

So here I sit on the hallway floor with the door cracked, blogging on the netbook & sipping my coffee while I try to wait him out. The big kids will be home in less than an hour and I'm really starting to resent the fact that he's stealing what little time I used to have to myself. Add in the fact that he's miserable, because he's tired, and he fussed at me all through the grocery store. Sarah was no pleasure either; at least we had the crazy old guy serenading us with "America the Beautiful" - that was odd.

As soon as Jason dozes off, I'm ignoring the stack of receipts and bills on my desk I need to deal with, the dishes in the sink AND the baskets of laundry waiting to be washed - I'm going to curl up on the couch with this (which wasn't supposed to be for sale until tomorrow! Wahoo!) and go to my happy place. Please hold all calls.

  1. YOU ALREADY HAVE THE PEOPLE magazine?!! JEALOUS! I need one...TODAY! What a pretty cover...although Edward's face gracing the front of any magazine is pure perfection.

Sorry Jason won't stay in bed. I'll be praying for you that this phase passes quickly (I know, only to be replaced by another.) Seems as if there have been several mommy bloggers complaining about their roaming children these days. Isaiah was never much of a roamer, he usually went to bed pretty easily (BUT woke up 2-4 times a night until the age of 3). Hope you get some much needed ME time soon.

  4. When you find a way to get that 8th day and have it all about you...most definitely share your secret! A day all for ME sounds divine.

  5. I completely feel your pain on getting your little one to sleep. My almost 2 year old will not fall asleep without me in the room... I have tried letting her cry it out but she gets so upset that she will not calm down. I have an almost 4 year old & a brand new one too so I can't just let her scream for hours. It is so frustrating!!! Oh & did I mention that once I get her to sleep & sneak out she then wakes up in the middle of the night... usually around 3 or so & comes into my bed. Uggghhhh!!! If you find a sure fire way of getting your little guy to sleep, please PLEASE share the knowledge... Good Luck! : )

  6. I'm with you on that 8th day. I'll be thinking of you and wishing you were with me in Vegas.

And I think I know what Magazine Bobbi will be buying at the airport tomorrow.

    Hang in there!

  7. I always layed with my oldest too, but then when she was this age I jsut told her I had things to do & if she needed me I would be right there but not to get out of bed & fall asleep... she totally got it. Plus she has always slept 10 - 12 hours at a time. This one though... there is no reasoning with her! My mom of course tells me that she is nothing compared to what I was as a kid... can you say payback - great huh! Thank goodness I am one of those people that only needs a few hours of sleep. ha! Today I decided to try no nap to see if that helps... I think I'll give that a whirl for a few days. Hopefully it will not make her a monster in the afternoon then. We'll see.... :)

  8. Wish I had an 8th day too! Though I'd probably have to spend it doing laundry ;)

I'm still laying down with my 4 year old each night! She absolutely will not go to sleep on her own. So, I'm feeling your pain AND Myra's! ;) Both my older girls stopped napping before their 2nd birthday, and neither slept in a crib, so I'm not much help :( How about I just pray for ya?

  9. Have you checked out the Women's Colony yet? http://thewomenscolony.com/origin-myth/
That is my dream alternate universe. I know where you are at right now, my youngest gave up napping well before the age of two just when his brothers were both in afternoon school. I cried harder when I finally gave up locking him in his room than he had leading up to my surrender. It's exhausting I know, but you move on to the next stage somehow and figure out when you can get the me time. Yesterday I drove 2 hours to the city and back by myself and didn't make it home in time to get dinner. Ahhh bliss.

  10. Hmmm, we moved all our kids to beds before age 2 because we needed the crib for the next one - and I layed down with them a couple of times and that was it. We haven't switched Maggie over yet because there's no rush - but now I'm anxious about how she'll do. Let us know if you figure out any good tips :)

  11. I SO feel your pain. Both of my guys stopped napping before 2. It was the same horrible routine every day for weeks and weeks and I gave up. That's right. I took the losers way out. I hope you can get the little spider monkey to stay put! :)

  12. Oh Jen! I feel for you! hang in there girl, one day you'll look back and say "that wasn't so bad", right?

We're going through the same thing with the little boy. As a matter of fact his daddy is sleeping in there with him right now. Because he is a SUCKER!

  14. I heart my swinging gate at the enterance to Summer's room. Not only can I hear and see {{peek}} in on her, SHE CAN"T GET OUT! Her room is safe and she eventually gets tired and goes to sleep!

    Good luck:)

  15. Oh, I feel for ya! Kelly's into the not needing a nap everyday, but is so cranky when she doesn't nap stage. When she's not napping...the "me" time slips away.

Cribs are soooo good!! Self containment and all :)

Enjoy that magazine!! You deserve it.

    xoxo ~Lisa
