I have a question. I'll reward you with a recipe.

Matt loves bread pudding. If it's on the menu somewhere, he'll invariably order. I have tried many, many bread pudding recipes over the years, and not many of them offered the perfect combination of bread, flavor and custard-y goodness. After a trip a year or two back, he came home raving over a blueberry bread pudding he'd had while dining out. After a quick google search and his consultation, I gave this one a try. In our minds, it's a winner! Makes a big warm dish of yummy bread pudding plenty big enough to share, and it's Recommended by Harried Mom. Try it!

BREAD PUDDING WITH BLUEBERRIES from Cooks.com
3/4 lb. bread, torn into 1 inch pieces
1 c. fresh or frozen blueberries
5 eggs
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter, melted & cooled
2 c. whipping cream
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
Dash each of cinnamon & nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place bread in a well-buttered non-aluminum 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Scatter blueberries over bread; set aside. With an electric mixer, beat eggs and sugar until foamy and light in color. With mixer on low speed, gradually add butter and cream. Mix in vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Pour custard mixture over bread and blueberries, pressing bread gently to make sure it is saturated. Bake pudding for 40 to 45 minutes until golden. Cool before serving warm or at room temperature.

And now for my question - mainly for those of you who read lots of blogs: HOW do you manage your reading? Google Reader? Refreshing your blog roll on your own page? I've followed so many over the last 3 years, but time is limited & I never got in the habit of using Google Reader - I know I miss a lot of good stuff. I'm trying to manage my time better (not off to such a great start here, but I'm hopeful), and we're finally making the leap & getting me a lap top, so I'll be able to cozy up on the couch with Matt while he watches Zombie movies & I can distract myself with  wine and all my lovely internet friends, instead of feeling banished to my desk in the other room :) Who knows - I may even start COMMENTING and REPLYING TO COMMENTS! Thanks in advance for your reply. Now go make that bread pudding. You'll thank me (your hips might not, but that's another story).

  1. I'm one of the last bloggers in the world to use my dashboard.

  2. Google reader all the way. I wouldn't have the time to check the 200ish blogs I follow. An easy way to manage them and you can put them in categories so you can easily mark a whole bunch as read if you don't feel like reading them (ie. I have a category called eye candy that is stuff that is funny or interesting but I only read when I have time). Also you can star things - I use this for recipes on blogs that I want to try. I can come back later and don't have to remember which blog it was on because it's under "starred items".

  4. I, too, use my dashboard. I don't know if it's easier, but it just works for me. I don't like to learn new things ;)

YAY for a laptop!!! That, alone, will help manage reading, in my opinion! If I had to go into the office and sit at our {ancient} desktop, I wouldn't blog at all.

  5. THat looks SOOO good! So I have a question, it might be a dumb one... do you just use regular bread???

Ok as for the blog reading. On my home computer I use my dashboard & then on my phone I use Google Reader. They both do the job but I find it is still REALLY hard to keep up (hence my 2 month bloggy break). I'm still wondering how so many other bloggers keep it up. Uggghhh.

  6. I don't eat bread pudding, so no chance of making that.
    Sorry.
And I don't read many blogs.

But when I do read...it is random. I read to be inspired...so whatever I feel is lacking in my day...be it artistic, baking, or faith centered, I go from there. Once blogging becomes something I have to manage, I will probably say good bye it. I have a family to manage, and that is enough for me.

I suggest you read when you need to read, and you write when you feel inspired, and you comment if you feel moved to.

  7. I love bread pudding and I order if every single time I see it! I want to make this TODAY!

My second husband....hated bread pudding but NEVER told me....until we were getting divorced. Weird right?

I use Google Reader and have the blogs split up into categories. Daily reads, crafts, schooling, fashion, fitness.
