Bigger is better! Except when it's your butt.

Guess what I discovered over the weekend! Running doesn't burn FAT! Exsqueeze me? Of course, it's a lot more complicated than that, but in a nutshell - the harder you're working, the less aerobic your run is, the less fat/more carbs you are burning. Unless of course you're running for more than 90 minutes, in which case you are then training your body to use those fat reserves up. I guess I have my answer as to why, 18 months later, I'm pretty toned but still carrying fat around with me. Hmm. So either I need to keep running LOOONNNNGGGGG runs - which I really don't want to do - or I add some walking in here and ratchet back on the running. Sounds good to me! Of course, I'm back to really counting calories, and I do want to mention - I cut out bread last week as I mentioned in my last post, and can I just tell you I haven't been hungry AT ALL? Other than the obvious meal-time 'it's time to eat' hungry. So that's a good thing. There's actually a pan of brownies in the kitchen RIGHT NOW that I haven't touched all day. Even when Matt ate one. Right in front of me. Shoot - now I have brownies on my brain :(

Anywho - it's soccer season here! Back to (hopefully) cool fall Saturday mornings at the soccer field! E&W both moved up this year, Evie is now U10 and William is U8 - can I just say how much easier this is now? The U10 field is RIGHT NEXT TO the little playground at our park. And Matt's not coaching U10, he's sticking with U8 - we were actually able to have a conversation, watch Evie play, AND keep an eye on the other three while they played on the jungle gym. The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter every day!

After soccer on Saturday we ran some errands related to a new project (details coming soon!), which of course caused Jason to doze off in the car and then not want to nap. After Sarah woke up they were pretty grouchy so I broke out the pack of Play-Doh that we were given at BlogHer last month. You'd think they'd never seen Play-Doh before! Er, wait, maybe they haven't. Have I mentioned that I hate Play-Doh? The colors get all mixed up, then it gets all dried out and stuck to the table and - well you know what I mean. Hate it. Anyway. We had one enormous set for a while that Evie had received as a gift one year and once that was all dried up I never bought any more.

THEY LOVED IT! And really - aside from the smell, there's nothing like a fresh can of bright Play-Doh. Neither of them were really sure what to do with it, but they both caught on quick. Jason rolled out lots of flat pieces & then cut them out, and Sarah made me a tiny (of course!) green 'box of chocolates'. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree :)

  1. I did a women's training program last spring (for running) and a coach showed us how many times we would have to run on a football field to work off one M &M. It was wild - her point - running won't do it.

We love Play-Doh here too - it's a rare event. The love the play, but they're not so great with the clean up.

  2. And that is why I have chosen not to run!

Play-Dough is fun! My oldest always makes homemade Play-Dough when she babysits, that's what the kids love her. She makes it in any color they want, adds a scent and lets them help her make it!

  3. Oh, but running to me is so fun - especially where I just go for it! I always feel I've only got 30 minutes or so, I better go as fast as I can in that amount of time. No time to walk! Guess I'm doing it all wrong! Rats.

  4. I hate play doh too... Especially when it gets tracked into my carpet...

  5. My kids love playing with playdough and I hate it because of the mess. There are always amillion tiny pieces all over the floor that I can't vacuum up because they're still soft and so I have to get down on my hands and knees and OMG WHAT A PAIN!!! I know what you mean with the mixing of the colours, too. That's why I make playdough. It's just as nice texture, but not as stinky and I can easily make a new batch if they want new colours again instead of that gray-colour it becomes when it's all mushed together.

  6. Play doh was only ever in my house because someone else bought it for Riley lol. Once it all got dried up it was in the garbage and never bought again lol.

Great pictures you got of all the kiddos...I love that E and W are so into soccer!

  8. UGH!! Now I am all a twitter trying to figure out this running thing. I have lost weight (50 lbs) running & cross-training...and now I love running. But am I stuck in a rut? Am I going to lose these last 5 lbs by running or do I need to do something else??? Hmmmm.....

  9. Ugh, re running. Play doh hasn't made it to our house yet. I do have fond memories of making pretend peanut butter cookies out of play doh on my mom's baking sheets.

  10. That's why I don't exercise and chose to just get liposuction instead!

I never realized what a mess Play Doh was until I played with it with the niece and nephew.

  11. Yeah, I don't love Play Doh either. And wow, lady, you have more willpower than I. I love bread way way too much. I always knew there were good reasons I don't run ;)

  12. Interesting about the running. So, walking is better when you're trying to lose weight? Good job on the no-bread-brownies thing!! I've got to get back on the wagon.

LOVE the pics of the kiddos. I actually love play-doh. I just love the way it feels when you squish it. It is messy. I pick it up off of our floors in my children's church rooms CONSTANTLY! UGH!

Hope you're having a great week!

  13. It is nice that you got an answer, but dang how do you not lose weight workin your butt off??? My girls love Play-doh/ It is such a pain though. We have a big bag of it & I do believe it has been hidden for a good month or so. It is just so annoying my girls roll tiny balls our of it so then they are EVERYWHERE.
