Friend Making Monday

It's Friend Making Monday at Kasey's, and I'm joining the fun this time around! I've been lurking for a while, but it's time to jump in. If you'd like to join in too, head over to Kasey's blog and get all the scoop.

This week's question is a good one, What is the best advice someone has ever given you?

Matt (my wonderful hubby) tells me this all the time, and it is such a hard one for me to do: JUST LET IT GO. I tend to obsess about things - big, medium, small, no matter how petty, I obsess about things that don't matter - encounters with strangers (the crabby store clerk, bad drivers, what have you); things the kids mess up around the house (dings in the furniture, nicks in the walls, the sofa and ottoman they have destroyed in six years); holidays that don't go according to my June Cleaver vision of them (such as Easter, as I posted yesterday!)

It's all little stuff that doesn't matter and I waste so much time and energy thinking about them, things I would do differently, instead of just accepting and moving on.

My Mom gave me a cross last Christmas with this saying on it: "God grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." I have it hanging in my kitchen window and I look at it every day, every time I'm at the sink. I'm still working on it all sinking in :-)

  2. Very good advice! I have a real hard tie with letting things go- I would rather them eat away at me and worry about them all day than just letting it go!!

Thanks for the reminder! Glad you decided to play and not just lurk! :)

    Have a great week!

  4. Best advice I ever recieved may help you a bit as well and falls in line with Matt's "Just let it go."

Don't expect people to act as you would in similar situation, you'll be disappointed 99.9% of the time.

    Capish?

  5. Wonderful advice, but tough for a certified control freak like me! Thanks for your honesty and also remember, "It Is What It Is!"

  6. It's definitely good to just "let it go". I think we can all get caught up on what our idea of perfect is, and when things don't go according to plan it can be catastrophic. It's good to remember not to sweat the small stuff. Great advice!

Hope you have a happy Monday!

  8. Let it go? Let it go? mmmm - not sure if I can. Good advice, but sooo hard to do. Reading your post, it was like you were describing me! (Does your husband shake his head in exasperation while he says it too?)

  12. Great advice! I feel like most things are not worth carrying around/hanging on to. You just have to let it go!

  13. That is very good advice. I am also an obsessor. I can't let things go and I go over and over little details until I make myself sick. I really need to take that advice! Thanks!

  14. Great advice. I obsess too. I just harp on things, as my mom would say. I can't let things go very easily & over analyze. I need that cross too. :)

  15. I have that same tendancy. I say the Prayer of St. Francis at least once a day.
