Extreme Makeover - Me Edition

It's "Extreme Makeover - Me Edition" over at Amber's blog, {ae filkins}, so instead of my "Fit Friday", I'm going to update everyone on my progress here. If you'd like to support Amber and even join in, head over to her blog for the instructions :-)

Personally, I am beginning to think this last five pounds will be following me around (literally, it's all in the back) forever. I am in better physical shape than probably at any other point in my life, but still no definition in my legs. It's discouraging. And then there are the times the little people in my house aggravate me, and I want to hit the M&Ms or whatever else is chocolate in my house. What I need to do is chew more gum - it helps keep me from snacking; I also should be drinking more water and less coffee (NO!) but that's going to be more difficult for me.

So on to the question of the week: How are you keeping track of your achievements? How do you reward yourself when you achieve a goal?

I weigh myself every day (OCD!) and am recording it once a week on the training schedule sheet I'm following from Hal Higdon to get ready for my 10k on May 2nd. Our scale also shows body fat, but that seems to change all over the place depending on water retention, so I'm more focused on weight. So far, not much of a change scale-wise; but I can now run 4 miles fairly easily, and my upper body looks pretty good! As for the reward? I've been thinking about that - if I get the last five pounds off, I think I'm going to buy a really nice bathing suit rather than just sticking with the specials at Costco :-)

  1. I was rewarding myself with star$#%$ coffee after a hard day. But, I think that is what put my 20 pounds on me this winter. I guess now that I am rewarding myself with a drink - nutty irishmen and margaritas from the 1 gallon size economy bottle. Cheaper than star$$$$ but probably still a lot of calories. Don't worry only maybe 1 or 2 drinks a week.

  2. I am horrible about rewarding myself with food.

Is there some other way to challenge your body to get the last 5 off? Like riding bike or some pilates moves?

You are doing great! I get tired just driving 4 miles....

  3. I too weigh every day, not supposed to but I just can't help it!

I journal everything I eat, drink and my activity daily. Kind of a pain in the arss but it helps me have some accountability.

Rewards, that's easy for me it's always a night out with people that are over 28(my BFF is 28 is that's why the strange #) and have no penis. We celebrate whatever over the rim of a non salted glass!

I've tagged you in a meme come on over and take a look.

    Have a great day!

  5. Great job! I think weighing in everyday is a great motivator. If you are up a little, you are determined to work really hard that day...and if your down...well you want to keep that momentum, so you work really hard that day! Win-win!

Yay for a new, nice bathing suit!

  6. It sounds like you are doing great! And running 4 miles is HUGE! I say you deserve a hot swim suit and maybe a trip to go with it!

I am with you on the 5 pounds thing. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it is! I am glad we have each other to bounce ideas off of and push us to make our goals!

  8. Jen,

Just reading that you've run 4 miles makes me out of breath!!! I so want to be a runner, but just can't seem to get myself past a slow, slow, slow jog of about 1.5 miles. So...good for you!!! That weight will fly off with a cardio routine like that!!!

  9. You're doing so great girl! Props to you, I WISH I was in the best shape of my life. I'll get there, I will. I should start running. I definitely want to challenge myself, but I think maybe I'll start with a walk instead of a run. :)

  10. I had lost everything but those final five! They are TRICKY! Sadly, I went on vacation, fell off the wagon, and now I have more than 5 to lose :( Keep up the great work, the five will go soon!
